NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the unwavering support of people living in border areas during Operation Sindoor, underlining that national security is not the sole responsibility of the Government or Armed Forces, but of every citizen.
Speaking at the inauguration of a Defence & Sports Academy in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Rajnath Singh said, “The security of the nation is the duty of all. The people in border areas stood shoulder-to-shoulder with our Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor, which reflects the true spirit of citizen responsibility.”
Operation Sindoor: A Symbol of New India
The Defence Minister lauded the zeal and determination of the youth who actively supported the Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor, a counter-terrorism mission launched after the cowardly terror attack in Pahalgam.
He noted that the operation achieved its objectives with precision, dealing a decisive blow to terrorism.
Drawing a contrast, Rajnath Singh said, “While terrorists killed innocent people in Pahalgam on the basis of their dharma, the Indian Armed Forces destroyed those who gave shelter to terrorists based on their karma.” He described the operation as the identity of New India – resilient, decisive, and just.
Defence, Education and Sports: Pillars of a Strong Nation
Underscoring the role of the newly inaugurated Defence & Sports Academy, the Defence Minister stressed that the integration of defence, education, and sports is crucial for nation-building.
“Education imparts knowledge, Defence ensures security, Sports instills perseverance, discipline, patience, and determination.”
He noted that students trained at such an institution would embody the qualities of both soldiers and sportspersons, enabling them to make India proud on national and international platforms.
While praising the historic contributions of Rajasthan’s soldiers, Rajnath Singh pointed out that the state, despite producing a large number of jawans, has not contributed officers in the same proportion. He urged the youth of the region to aspire for officer-level roles in the Armed Forces to further bolster national security.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, along with other dignitaries. The Defence & Sports Academy is expected to serve as a hub for nurturing talent in both fields, fostering a culture of discipline and national service among the youth.
By placing equal emphasis on citizen responsibility, youth empowerment, and the synergy of defence, education, and sports, the Defence Minister’s address reinforced a vision of India as a secure, self-reliant, and globally respected nation.
