NEW DELHI: Punjab is set for a significant power infrastructure makeover, with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) launching a large-scale project to upgrade power lines across the state. The initiative, announced today by Cabinet Minister for Power Sanjeev Arora, addresses a long-standing public demand raised during election meetings.
The project covers 13 Municipal Corporations and 87 PSPCL subdivisions, with the twin goals of enhancing public safety and improving the reliability of electricity supply. It also aims to boost the visual appeal of Punjab’s urban spaces.
Key components of the upgrade include:

Clearing non-electric wires from PSPCL poles such as dish cables and internet fibre to reduce hazards and enable quicker fault detection.

Raising low-hanging wires and cables to safe heights, reducing risks of accidents, especially with heavy vehicles.

Replacing multiple cable joints with continuous new cables to cut down on outages, voltage fluctuations, and fire risks.

Sealing open meter boxes to guard against weather, tampering, and accidents.
Rollout Plan
The project spans major cities including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Mohali, and others. A pilot phase will start in the City West Ludhiana Subdivision on 25 feeders, with PSPCL supplying materials and outsourcing labour worth approximately ₹1.2 crore. The pilot will take two months, covering key areas of Ludhiana West and North constituencies.
Following evaluation of the pilot, the full rollout will extend across all 87 subdivisions, with completion targeted for June 2026.

Minister Arora emphasized that the project reflects the government’s commitment to both safety and modernization. “This initiative is not just about wires and poles—it’s about delivering safer, more reliable power to people’s homes and workplaces,” he said.
Present at the press briefing were DC Himanshu Jain, Director Transmission Inderpal, Chief Engineer PSPCL Jagdev Singh Hans, along with senior PSPCL officials.
The ambitious grid makeover marks a crucial step toward transforming Punjab’s electricity infrastructure and ensuring that urban residents experience uninterrupted and safer power supply.
