Harish Khurana

Summary

Delhi BJP MLA Harish Khurana’s visit to a government hospital sparked protests due to patient complaints of bribery, neglect, and poor hygiene. Patients reported unsanitary conditions and denied treatment. Khurana aims to address issues stemming from the previous AAP regime, while authorities plan an investigation.

NEW DELHI:  A surprise visit by Harish Khurana, Delhi BJP MLA and son of former chief minister Madan Lal, to ascertain the grave charges of bribery and paramedic staff-doctor collusion on Thursday has sparked a widespread confrontation between the legislator and medicos at a government hospital.

Khurana, who was representing the complaints on behalf of patients and local residents, was met with sloganeering and a banner of protests by doctors at Acharya Shree Bhikshu Government Hospital in Moti Nagar.

The hospital faces a surge of written patient complaints over neglect, poor hygiene, and inadequate treatment by nurses and doctors.

It also faces the charges of under-the-table financial deals between staff and a section of doctors.

Some of the written complaints range from denial of treatments to unhygienic toilets during the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime.

Patient Complaints Before New Delhi Govt

  • June 25, 2025 –  Arif Khan, a resident of Moti Nagar, complained of foul odors, unhygienic surroundings, and stray dogs inside the hospital premises. His written grievance was addressed to MLA Harish Khurana.

“Hospital is filthy, foul smell everywhere. Stray dogs roam near labor room & OT. Staff misbehaved when I raised concern.”- Arif

  • August 17, 2025 – Vijay complained that hospital toilets were unsanitary despite a ₹10 usage charge, seeking Khurana’s intervention.Harish Khurana

“Toilets are very dirty despite charging ₹10. Sanitation is completely neglected.”- Vijay

  • August 20, 2025 – Emergency Case Complaint: A 42-year-old patient named Jyoti was registered with severe back pain. She later submitted a written complaint alleging denial of treatment, staff misbehavior, and “mental distress.”Harish Khurana

“Doctor only checked BP & ignored me. Staff misbehaved, no treatment given, left suffering.”- Jyoti

  • November 5, 2024- “Despite free treatment in this govt hospital, staff forced me to pay ₹5–6k during delivery. Such extortion must stop; strict action is needed.”

Confrontation at the Hospital

The incident has intensified focus on the hospital’s ongoing administrative and patient care issues.

“Most of the complaints happen due to problems that occurred during the  AAP regime. None of the issues were resolved. Instead, we want to address these concerns patiently with all stakeholders,” said Khurana.

Health experts say the clustering of complaints within a short span suggests deeper administrative failures.

Authorities are now expected to probe both the patient grievances, with urgent reforms needed to restore trust and ensure safe, accountable healthcare delivery.

“The problem is only due to interns. Most of the paramedic staff have alerted the government about certain nexus. We are hopeful, things will be fixed with consensus,” said a senior nurse.
