NEW DELHI: In a significant gesture of support for flood-affected families in Punjab, Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that every family that lost a loved one in the recent floods will be offered a permanent job at Lovely Professional University (LPU).
The devastating floods claimed 43 lives, many of whom were the sole breadwinners of their families. Describing the loss as “beyond numbers,” Mittal said that these victims represent the real tragedy of the disaster and that it was time for society to stand by the affected families in a meaningful way.
Mittal emphasized that this initiative is not just financial assistance but a path to long-term rehabilitation. “This is not just a promise; it is a chance for a new beginning,” he said, highlighting the importance of sustainable support through employment and local opportunities.
The LPU administration will directly contact every bereaved family to extend the offer. Families who have not yet been approached are encouraged to come forward so that the university can ensure timely help.
Contribution to Relief Efforts
Alongside the jobs announcement, Mittal has contributed ₹20 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to bolster the state government’s ongoing flood relief measures. He also commended Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his team for swiftly setting up 196 relief camps and safely rescuing over 20,000 people from flood-hit areas.
Mittal underlined that leadership must be measured through action, not words. “While many focus on announcements, we must open our resources and institutions to help people directly,” he said.
By offering jobs to 43 families and extending financial assistance to the relief fund, Mittal has set an example of proactive leadership.
His initiative reflects the Aam Aadmi Party’s approach of delivering real solutions, not just promises, and providing long-term rehabilitation to those in need.
This step, observers say, has not only given hope to the affected families but also reinforced Punjab’s tradition of standing strong in times of crisis.
