New Delhi: Hours after attacking the Russian President’s residence, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky left for Finland on Wednesday, drawing suggestions that he may never return to the country.

Zelensky’s “rare” foreign visit comes hours after Ukraine allegedly attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin the previous night.

As the news spread, social media erupted in anger, with many condemning the Ukrainian President as a “coward” for “deserting his countrymen” to death.

“Finland participating in Zelensky’s cowardice isn’t a good look. He fled Ukraine during his drone attack on the Kremlin, knowing the Ukrainians would pay for his actions with retaliatory strikes. Do you like harboring cowardly leaders? Is that who the Finns are now?” wrote a Twitter user.

On Wednesday, the Kremlin said that two drones had been used in the alleged attack on President Putin’s residence in the Kremlin citadel but had been disabled by electronic defences.

Putin was not injured, and there was no material damage to the Kremlin building, Russian authorities said, adding that they considered the alleged attack “a planned terrorist act and an attempt on the life of the President of the Russian Federation.”

“Last night, the Kiev regime attempted a drone strike against the residence of the President of the Russian Federation at the Kremlin. We consider these actions a premeditated terrorist attack and an assassination attempt targeting the President,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

Moscow has launched a terrorism investigation into the incident. A high-ranking Russian official has called for “destroying the Kyiv regime,” drawing support from many online users who said it was the only “viable option” left for Russia.

“We will demand the use of weapons capable of stopping and destroying the Kyiv terrorist regime,” Russian Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said, adding, “No negotiations can take place with the regime of Zelensky.”

Meanwhile, the United States, which has been actively aiding and abetting Ukraine to step up the war, has said that it was skeptical of the Russian claim of the attack on the Kremlin.
