Ladakh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong statement to Pakistan, asserting that it continues to depend on terrorism and proxy warfare to maintain its significance in the region.

He highlighted the steadfast dedication of the Indian armed forces to eliminate terrorism and assured the nation that the soldiers would use their full strength to destroy any terrorist activities and respond effectively to the enemy.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during the Kargil Vijay Diwas Shradhanjali Samaroh in Drass, Ladakh. Earlier, PM Modi paid homage to the soldiers who lost their lives in the 1999 Kargil War. He visited Kargil on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas to honour the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.

In preparation for the Prime Minister’s visit, security measures were enforced at the Kargil War Memorial. During his visit, PM Modi also initiated the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project through a virtual ceremony.

PM Narendra Modi stated, “Be it Ladakh or Jammu and Kashmir, India will overcome every challenge that hinders development. In a few days, on August 5, it will be five years since Article 370 was revoked. Jammu and Kashmir are envisioning a new future and dreaming big. Along with infrastructure development, the tourism sector is rapidly growing in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir. After decades, a cinema hall has opened in Kashmir. After three and a half decades, the Muharram procession was taken out in Srinagar for the first time. Our heaven on earth is swiftly moving towards peace and harmony.”

“In Kargil, we not only won the war, but we also showcased ‘Truth, Restraint, and Strength,'” said PM Modi.

“Today, the majestic land of Ladakh marks a significant milestone – 25 years since the triumphant victory of Kargil. Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us that the sacrifices made for our nation are eternal and forever remembered. As time passes, days turn into months, months into years, and years into centuries – the names of those who laid down their lives for the sake of national security remain etched in our collective memory, forever immortalized!” PM Modi said.

He mentioned that Agnipath aims to rejuvenate the forces, keeping the armies continuously fit for combat. He criticized those who have turned this sensitive topic related to national security into a subject of politics, weakening the forces with corruption.

PM Modi addressed misconceptions about the Agnipath scheme, emphasizing that the government did not introduce it to save pension money. “The question of pension for today’s recruitment will arise after 30 years. Why would the government decide on it today? We would have left that to future governments. We have respected this decision made by the forces because, for us, the security of the country is paramount, not politics.”

“The Agnipath Scheme is an example of the necessary reforms done by the Army. For decades, there have been discussions on making the armed forces young, from Parliament to various committees. The average age of Indian soldiers being higher than the global average has been raising concerns. Therefore, this topic has been raised in many committees for years. However, the will to solve this challenge related to the country’s security was not shown earlier. The country has addressed this concern through the Agnipath scheme,” PM Modi said.

“India was trying to establish peace at that time; in return, Pakistan once again showed its untrustworthy face. However, lies and terror were defeated by the truth. Every time Pakistan attempted something malicious, it received a fitting reply in the past. However, Pakistan has not learned any lessons from its history. It is trying to keep itself relevant by relying on terrorism and proxy war,” said PM Modi during the Kargil Vijay Diwas Shradhanjali Samaroh in Drass, Ladakh.

“This country will always be indebted to the brave soldiers of our Army. This country is grateful to them. It is my good fortune that during the Kargil war, I was among our soldiers as an ordinary citizen,” said PM Modi.

“Pakistan has failed in all its malicious attempts in the past. But Pakistan has not learned anything from its history. It is trying to keep itself relevant with the help of terrorism and proxy war. Today I am speaking from a place where the masterminds of terror can hear my voice directly. I want to tell these patrons of terrorism that their malicious intentions will never succeed. Our soldiers will crush terrorism with full force, and the enemy will be given a fitting reply,” PM Modi said.
