NEW DELHI: According to media sources, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to meet RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today in Gorakhpur. Bhagwat is already in the city for the centenary celebrations of the RSS, taking place at the Saraswati Vidya Mandir in the Maniram area in the evening.

During his two-day visit to Gorakhpur, CM Yogi plans to discuss the BJP’s recent poor performance in Uttar Pradesh with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat at the Saraswati Vidya Mandir. Bhagwat has been in Gorakhpur since June 12 as part of the RSS centenary celebrations.

The BJP’s decline in Uttar Pradesh is notable. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the party secured 62 seats, but in the recent 2024 elections, this number dropped to just 32 seats.

Meanwhile, Mohan Bhagwat is actively participating in the Sangh worker development program in Gorakhpur. He will conclude the 5-day program and depart from Gorakhpur on June 17. BJP workers are eagerly anticipating Bhagwat’s meeting with Chief Minister Yogi.

During his visit, the Sangh chief emphasized the importance of expanding the RSS extensively and robustly from block to village levels, especially as the RSS approaches its centenary in 2025. This expansion is seen as crucial for the organization’s future growth and influence.

The meeting between Yogi Adityanath and Mohan Bhagwat holds significance not just for the BJP but also for the broader political landscape in Uttar Pradesh. It reflects a strategic effort to address and strategize around the party’s recent electoral setbacks and to strengthen the RSS’s grassroots presence in the state.

Sources have labeled the upcoming meeting between Mohan Bhagwat and Yogi Adityanath as a “courtesy meet,” given Bhagwat’s presence in the Chief Minister’s constituency for an RSS event. The meeting is scheduled to occur either between 2 and 4 pm or after Adityanath visits the Gorakhnath Temple.

The optics of Bhagwat meeting Adityanath hold significance following the former’s recent speech in Nagpur, where he criticized the campaign strategies of both political factions.
