Sushasan Mahotsav 2024: A pinnacle celebration of good governance

NEW DELHI: In a pre-event press conference, Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Vice Chairman of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP), announced that Sushasan Mahotsav 2024 is scheduled for February 9 and 10 in New Delhi.

At the press conference Sahasrabuddhe emphasised the historical significance of the concept of ‘good governance,’ tracing its roots to Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government 25 years ago. He underscored that Prime Minister Modi has consistently championed this commitment, both in Gujarat and across the nation, fostering an ethos of effective governance.

He said, “The concept of ‘good governance’ gained prominence during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government 25 years ago. The term became widely used during that period. Later Prime Minister Modi continued this commitment, initiating efforts in Gujarat and later across the nation to foster good governance.”

Speaking at the press conference, Vinay stressed the need for making ‘good governance’ a people’s movement. He echoed Prime Minister Modi’s sentiment that this collective endeavour is vital for shaping a governance ethos that endures.

“To elevate governance literacy the initiation of the two-day Good Governance Festival, known as Sushasan Mahotsav, is critical. Many individuals lack awareness of how development projects are conceived and executed. This festival aims to bridge that gap, providing insights into the intricacies of good governance”, said the ICCR President.

The Chief Coordinator of Sushasan Mahotsav’24, Piyush Girgaonkar was also present at the press conference, sharing further details about the event.

“Through grand exhibitions, representatives from different states, civil society members and politicians will showcase their achievements and success stories. The event will feature Chief Ministers sharing their perspectives on good governance, fostering a dialogue on effective leadership,” Girgaonkar stated.

Providing further details he shared, “BJP President J.P. Nadda will inaugurate the event on February 9. We have invited the Minister of Health and family welfare, Mansukh Mandviya to share insights, the struggles while fighting with the COVID-19 pandemic and the success story. Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis will discuss farmers and farming,  while Hemanta Biswa Sarma will lead a conversation on development in Assam. Yogi Adityanath will conclude the event on February 10.”

Sushasan Mahotsav seeks to enhance public understanding by shedding light on the process of project development and implementation. The festival is dedicated to promoting transparency, awareness, and a deeper appreciation of the mechanisms that drive effective governance.

The Vice Chairman, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini further added, “A book titled ‘Art of Implementation as Mastered by PM Narendra Modi’ will also be launched.”

Highlighting the festival’s significance in the context of PM Modi’s vision, Vinay said, “According to the Prime Minister, it should be a collective endeavour. This underscores a shared commitment to shaping a governance ethos that stands the test of time.”

Speaking about the “grand celebrations” that this mahotsav is, Piyush Girgaonkar said, “As India envisions a developed and prosperous future, Sushasan Mahotsav 2024 promises to be a grand celebration.” The event will not only showcase accomplishments and success stories but also serve as a platform for a constructive dialogue on effective governance.
