Security forces seize cache of weapons in Nagaland, rescue kidnapped worker

NAGALAND: The security forces in Nagaland have apprehended a large collection of weapons and communication devices. The operation, dubbed ‘Cloudburst’, yielded a substantial haul, including eleven 82 mm mortars, four RCL tubes, ten pistols, 199 radio sets, and satellite phones. Indian Army officials are currently intensifying efforts to gather more information about the operation. With Operation Cloudburst the Indian armed forces aimed to thwart illicit activities and maintain law and order in the region.

In a separate incident on April 24, a construction worker who was reported to be abducted in Kohima was rescued in a night operation by a joint police team. The operation was led by the Kohima security forces with the support of the Police of Phek district in the state.

The rescue mission was launched following a complaint filed about the abduction of a non-tribal labourer on April 22. The abductors took him to hire him for house construction. Earlier in April, Assam Rifles made significant headway in quelling insurgent activities in Northeast India through targeted operations.

The paramilitary force executed two operations, resulting in the apprehension of two members of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh and recovering a homemade 0.32 mm pistol with the captured insurgent. In March, the Assam Rifles apprehended an NSCN-KYA cadre in the Merangkong area of Nagaland and seized a homemade single-barrel gun from his possession.
