Russia Steps Up ‘Indiscriminate Shelling’ In Ukraine’s Urban Areas: UK Intel

NEW DELHI: Russian forces continue to encircle a number of cities across eastern Ukraine, said the UK’s Ministry of Defence in a recent intelligence update, adding that the troops have had very little success in capturing these cities over the past week.

The intensity of the strafe from the Russian side has grown dramatically over recent weeks, the intelligence note stated. The indiscriminate cannonade from the Russian forces ransacked settlements and destroyed, taking the lives of many civilians.

Russia’s gesture shows it would not refrain from shelling as of now, the defence intelligence bulletin said.

“It is likely Russia will continue to use its heavy firepower to support assaults on urban areas as it looks to limit its own already considerable losses, at the cost of further civilian casualties,” reads the intelligence update of the UK.

With towns like Kharkov, Luhansk, Zaporizka in her territory, the eastern Ukraine boasts to be comparatively urbanised. About one third of Ukraine land mass dwells in the eastern region and extended territories.

As the situation continues deteriorating in Ukraine, India about a week ago shifted its diplomatic mission from Lviv, Ukraine to neighbouring Poland.
