NEW DELHI: Responding swiftly to the health challenges emerging after recent floods, the Punjab Government has launched a statewide disease-prevention campaign, prioritizing citizens’ health, sanitation, and safety.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the initiative focuses on ensuring door-to-door medical services, cleanliness drives, and emergency preparedness across villages and towns.

Massive Ground-Level Mobilization

On Friday, the government activated 12,977 Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs), engaging over one lakh members in health and sanitation efforts. In Patiala alone, 226 snakebite cases have been reported this year, highlighting the urgency of medical preparedness.

To counter post-flood health risks, large-scale cleanliness drives are underway—drains are being cleaned, garbage disposed of, and pesticides sprayed to curb disease outbreaks.

Door-to-Door Health Services

Specially trained ASHA workers are conducting home visits, raising awareness and providing medical support. The state’s “Har Shukrvar Dengue Te Var” campaign targets mosquito breeding spots, while Gambusia fish are being released in ponds and water bodies for natural mosquito control.

Emergency Care and Advisory

To tackle emergencies like snake and dog bites, the government has ensured the availability of Anti-Snake Venom in all hospitals. Citizens can also access immediate consultation and emergency help through the 104 helpline.

Action Plan and Clinics Revival

The campaign includes:

  • Sanitation drives at village and town level

  • Door-to-door check-ups and sample collection

  • Regular health check-ups and awareness drives

Importantly, Aam Aadmi Clinics are being reopened in flood-affected regions, offering free check-ups and treatment facilities to poor and needy families.

A Government of Action

Chief Minister Mann emphasized that the campaign reflects the government’s sensitivity, foresight, and commitment. “Our highest priority is the health and safety of every citizen. These steps prove we are taking concrete action, not just making announcements,” he stated.

With its comprehensive, on-ground measures, the Punjab Government is setting an example of how governance can blend urgency with compassion—making healthcare a lifeline for every flood-hit household.
