NEW DELHI: In a remarkable display of leadership and compassion, the Punjab Government has launched “Operation Rahat”, a special relief initiative under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and led on ground by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
As part of this mission, Minister Bains has personally contributed ₹5 lakh from his family funds to restore 50 flood-damaged homes, offering a fresh start to distressed families in Anandpur Sahib constituency and Nangal.
Minister Bains Leads from the Front
While water flow from Bhakra Dam and Himachal Pradesh has subsided, villages in the region continue to grapple with devastation. Minister Bains has been personally visiting affected areas, joining cleanliness drives in government schools alongside sarpanches and youth volunteers. “With the support of our people and blessings of Waheguru, we can overcome any challenge,” he said.
Comprehensive Relief Measures
Operation Rahat goes beyond financial aid. The initiative includes:
-
DDT spraying, fogging, and medical camps to prevent disease outbreaks
-
Deployment of veterinary doctors for livestock health
-
Field staff, patwaris, kanungos, tehsildars, SDMs, and sarpanches stationed in villages for the next 10 days to expedite compensation and deliver schemes directly
-
Special assistance for families who lost livestock
Speedy Restoration
Bains assured that data collection for damaged homes will be completed in 3–4 days, with restoration support to follow immediately. “Operation Rahat will be completed on a large scale within the next 8–10 days, ensuring people get timely relief,” he added.
Homes Turned Into Shelters
Even before Operation Rahat, Minister Bains had opened his ancestral home in Gambhirpur and his Sewa Sadan in Nangal to flood victims, providing 24×7 shelter, food, and medical aid. “Whatever I am today, it is because of the people. My homes remained open round the clock for every family in need,” he said.
A Symbol of Hope
Operation Rahat has quickly emerged as a symbol of hope, responsibility, and sensitivity, reflecting the Punjab Government’s commitment to rebuilding lives. For the people of Anandpur Sahib, it is more than relief—it is a promise of a fresh beginning.
