NEW DELHI: In a swift and unprecedented response to the worsening flood crisis, the Punjab Government has deployed its entire cabinet to flood-affected districts to oversee rescue and relief operations on the ground.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann directed all Ministers to remain in the field until the situation is under control, stressing that “saving every life and protecting every property” is the government’s top priority.
Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, while monitoring Sangrur and Mansa districts, held a detailed review with Deputy Commissioners via conference call. He instructed officials to “leave no stone unturned in mitigating the problems of flood-hit families,” while ensuring timely relief distribution and medical aid.
Other cabinet ministers have also fanned out across the state. Harbhajan Singh ETO supervised relief in Ramdas, Tarn Taran, Goindwal Sahib, and Ajnala; Barinder Kumar Goyal coordinated efforts in Tarn Taran and Ajnala; Gurmeet Singh Khuddian monitored relief in Kapurthala; Lal Chand Kataruchak oversaw operations in Pathankot; Laljit Singh Bhullar camped in Tarn Taran; and Hardeep Singh Mundian inspected flood-hit villages in Sultanpur Lodhi.
The state government is working in close coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other central agencies to strengthen rescue operations. Evacuation drives, medical camps, food distribution, and temporary shelters are being scaled up to meet the urgent needs of displaced families.
Officials said special attention is being given to vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly, ensuring their immediate relocation to safer areas.
The Chief Minister has assured people that the government machinery will remain active in the field until normalcy is restored.
