New Delhi: At the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a sharp critique of the global approach toward terrorism, highlighting the inconsistency in dealing with nations that support terror activities. Without naming any country, he pointed out that while sanctions are swiftly imposed based on political preferences, some nations openly backing terrorism are rewarded. The remarks were seen as a veiled reference to Pakistan, whose Army Chief, General Asim Munir, is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump.

In a separate development, PM Modi spoke with President Trump in a 35-minute phone call, clarifying that India’s Operation Sindoor—a military action against terror camps in Pakistan—was paused following a request from Islamabad and not due to US mediation or any trade deal offer. Modi emphasized that countries supporting terrorism must face consequences, reinforcing India’s firm stance on cross-border terror.

The conversation marked the first interaction between the two leaders since the operation was halted last month. While Trump reportedly invited Modi to visit the US after the G7 summit, the Prime Minister declined due to prior commitments, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

The discussions at the G7 and the subsequent phone call underscored India’s clear message on zero tolerance for terrorism and its rejection of any external mediation in bilateral matters with Pakistan.
