New Delhi: Following the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171 on June 12th, which claimed 241 lives, the airline has cancelled 83 wide-body flights, including 66 Boeing 787 Dreamliner operations, as part of precautionary safety checks.
The disruptions, spanning from June 12th to June 17th, affected both domestic and international routes, with key destinations like London, Paris, and Dubai experiencing cancellations due to maintenance issues or aircraft unavailability.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) convened a high-level meeting with Air India and Air India Express officials to review operational resilience and compliance with safety protocols. The discussions focused on seven critical areas aimed at reinforcing regulatory adherence and improving service reliability. Passengers impacted by the cancellations were offered alternatives, including refunds and rescheduled flights.
The incident has intensified scrutiny of Air India’s maintenance procedures, prompting the airline to conduct extensive inspections across its wide-body fleet. While the cancellations have caused significant travel disruptions, the airline emphasized that passenger safety remains its top priority. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash as the aviation sector grapples with the aftermath of one of its deadliest accidents in recent years.
