NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has imposed temporary airfare caps across affected routes as part of an urgent intervention into the ongoing IndiGo operational crisis. The move comes after widespread complaints of unusually high ticket prices triggered by large-scale disruptions in flight operations.

Issued on 6 December 2025, the directive mandates all airlines to strictly follow the newly prescribed fare limits until the situation stabilises. The Ministry said the decision was necessary to curb opportunistic pricing and protect passengers facing last-minute travel pressures.

MoCA emphasised that the fare caps are intended to shield vulnerable travellers — including senior citizens, students, medical patients and those flying for urgent needs — from excessive financial burden during the disruption.

To ensure compliance, the Ministry will monitor fare levels through real-time data in coordination with airlines and online travel platforms. Any deviation from the prescribed norms will result in immediate corrective action.

With the crisis placing strain on flight availability nationwide, the government’s intervention aims to restore pricing discipline and safeguard public interest until normal operations resume.
