NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has issued a strict directive to IndiGo, ordering the airline to clear all pending passenger refunds for cancelled or disrupted flights by 8 PM on 7 December 2025. The move comes amid ongoing operational disruptions and growing passenger grievances over delayed reimbursements and added charges.

Under the Ministry’s instructions, airlines have been told not to levy any rescheduling fees on affected passengers. MoCA has warned that any non-compliance will attract immediate regulatory action.

IndiGo has also been directed to establish dedicated passenger support and refund cells, ensure proactive communication with travellers, and continue offering automatic refunds until operations return to normal. The aim is to reduce passenger inconvenience and accelerate redressal during the crisis.

In addition, the Ministry has mandated that all separated or misplaced baggage must be traced and delivered to passengers’ homes within 48 hours. Oversight has been tightened to ensure smooth handling of vulnerable passengers, including senior citizens, differently-abled travellers, and those with urgent travel requirements.

With pressure mounting on India’s largest airline, the government’s intervention seeks to restore order, maintain accountability and safeguard passenger rights during this period of severe operational strain.
