How India is sculpting a multipolar world

The route to a multipolar world is not in the strengthening of ‘closed’ power-blocs that run on the fuel of moral righteousness. By forging strong need-based relationships with each country – ‘developing’ in particular – India is playing a key role in sculpting a truly multipolar world.

India’s current place in the world is founded on her historic experience of being a civilisational nation, oppression as well as reprisal against colonial and racist domination. Her past shapes her current outlook towards many crucial world affairs that concern her and the world at large.

It is because of her civilisational strength and her history of struggle against colonialism that she has survived international political pressure that is normally intended to manipulate and destabilize the world systems by attacking sovereignty of other nation states through nefarious means.

India is currently making a sterling contribution into the consolidation of South-to-South relations that is more intended to promote national interest in particular and rapid development of the countries in the South in general.

America’s global domination is being increasingly challenged by the Global South. World disorder didn’t end with the end of the cold war. Neither did conflicts born out of self-interest of former colonial powers. We are left to deal with the crisis of imperialism – promotion of aggression from Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and others.

The West loathes the idea of promoting peace and prosperity in their former colonies. So, it remains the prerogative of the oppressed countries to come together and set their developmental agenda for themselves. India is playing an important role shaping that agenda and giving it a life-affirming positive narrative.

Institutions such as NATO and the European Union are the enemies of peace and prosperity in the countries outside of Europe. India is under tremendous pressure to take sides in the Ukraine-Russia war, especially on the insistence of the US. But it has largely steered clear of taking sides while keeping her national interest as the paramount factor when it comes to engagement with Russia, while calling for global peace and contributing to humanitarian aid in war-torn Ukraine.

The west further wants New Delhi to support aggression in the South China Sea and recognition of Taiwan as a sovereign state. Countries of the South have intertwined both peace and development as an overarching principle for further engagements.

The relationship with Moscow emanates from the existence of the USSR and evolved even after the demise of the World Socialist System. Many in the West mistaken India to be the puppet of the Russian system. Russophobia continues to be a rally point for everyone to be against Moscow. Trade between the two countries continues to grow, particularly in the energy and defense sector.

Central to the relations is the total manifestation of brotherhood and mutual respect that reciprocate very well in the international arena. Russia continues to play a central role in facilitating ends to disputes between India and China. Some analysts happened to make a farcical conclusion that suggests that Russia is being goaded by closer relations that Beijing has recently developed with Washington. Reality of the matter is that Washington intends to disrupt and change regional order. However, the recent developments in relations to US intention of rally support of India in supporting the stance against Moscow remained unsuccessful. Russia is benefitting largely from the Indian market as one of the largest in the world.

The Indian diaspora and the New World Order

Historically people from India have been part and parcel of the growth story of various parts of the globe. There are six million Indian people living and working in the USA alone. There is also a significant number of those living and working in the CommonWealth countries as teachers, doctors and other scarce skills.

Big tech companies are also doing joint projects with the US tech companies, through their own initiatives. This also applies to many institutions which are locally based, they have concretized working together at the level of technology. What we are saying is that there is a consummate cosmopolitan character of a particular community that is making a sterling contribution in the development within some quarters of the globe.

Similarly, many Indian scholars regarded the indenture policy as a form of modernized oppression on the people of Indian origin. Many communities were dislocated from their land of origin to be scattered all over the British colonies. Layers of new generations of Indians who were born outside India sometimes happen to ignore their ancestral origin and get trapped into the principles of Common Wealth wherein colonial indoctrination do masquerade Britain as the land of hope, peace and civilization. Revolutionary Movements and martyrs made a sterling job in exposing indenture as a modern slavery and a trajectory of generational oppression.

Western ideology of democracy can indoctrinate the younger generation by making great distortion of history, education and culture of any younger generation if it does continue to be left unattended.

The reality of the matter is that the peninsula has been dominated by two major powers, which is China and India. This does not necessarily exclude other stakeholders who form part of the peninsula. The interests of New Delhi have been much more on ensuring that players share equal responsibilities and opportunities. The area in itself carries deep cultural ties of India and China into a melting pot of existing realities that strive to deepen realities in the areas.

The strategic composition of the supply chain process reciprocates mutual benefits of both countries. This frustrates US bullying in acquiring security and economic spin offs in the peninsula. The US government continues to promote disunity in the region by having different relations with different role players with the intention to build its hegemony and domination. India remains vigilant of such attempts and subtly takes action to maintain balance.
