BJP party officials protests against AAP's Excise policy row, demands Manish Sisodia's resignation

NEW DELHI: Delhi Leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Saturday demanded the resignation of deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, alleging that he subverted rules to benefit liquor mafias.

“AAP is conspiring with the liquor mafias in Delhi to open liquor shops in every nook and corner of the city,” he said during a protest by the party against the alleged irregularities in the allocation of liquor licenses following the introduction of the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, who led the protest march, said either Sisodia should resign immediately or be sacked by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal as his name is directly involved in this scam.

The irregularities allegedly took place when Sisodia was in-charge of the excise department. On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena recommended a CBI probe into the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

In his report submitted to the LG, the Delhi chief secretary has named deputy CM Sisodia for flouting the established rules to give undue benefit to the liquor licensees in Delhi to the tune of Rs 143.4 crores.

Responding to the LG’s recommendation, the chief minister said that the ruling BJP is trying to scare the AAP leaders and vowed to fight back. “We are not scared of any investigation. We are not scared of going to jail either,” he said during a press conference.

“I have known Manish Sisodia for 22 years. He is a staunchly honest leader,” Kejriwal said.

He further said that BJP was registering fake FIRs against AAP leaders because “there is a storm of the party in the country after its Punjab victory”.
