European Council, French & Polish Presidents Speak To PM Modi Over Ukraine Crisis; India Says Sovereignty & Territorial Integrity Top Priority

NEW DELHI: As Russia is thickening the columns of troops in besieged Ukraine, a slew of anxieties are emerging for India and other states across the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday held a telephonic conversation with three concerned world leaders from Europe. Andrzej Duda, President of Poland; Emmanuel Macron, President of France and Charles Michel, President of the European Council separately spoke to PM Modi on the worsening crisis in Ukraine.

While speaking to the world leaders, Prime Minister reiterated India’s consistent appeal for cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue. In each of these three telephonic meetings, the Prime Minister emphasised the need of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.  The Indian PM expressed his anguish over the deteriorating situation and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. He reiterated India’s appeal for cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue.

When speaking with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, PM Modi stressed that the contemporary global order was anchored on international law, UN Charter and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states.

In the telephonic conversation, PM Modi thanked Andrzej Duda, President of Poland for the generosity extended by Poland in evacuation of stranded Indians from Ukraine. Poland has relaxed the visa requirement for Indian citizens for the transit trip to Poland from Ukraine to domicile India. General (Dr.) V.K. Singh (Retd.), Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Civil Aviation, is visiting Poland to oversee and coordinate Operation Ganga.
