NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar took a dig at Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of having a habit of criticizing India while abroad. Speaking at a press conference marking nine years of the Modi government, Dr. Jaishankar stated, “Rahul Gandhi has a habit of criticizing the country on foreign soil and making comments on our politics whenever he goes out of the country. They have their way of politics, and we have ours. They create a narrative, and when it doesn’t work within the country or has less impact, they go outside and try to set a narrative on foreign land, expecting that outside support will enter India. I don’t object to whatever he does inside the country, but taking national politics out of the country is not in the national interest.”

Responding to questions, Dr. Jaishankar expressed confidence in the victory of the BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, despite the criticism of India spread abroad. He stated, “The world is watching us, and what are they seeing? Elections are held, and sometimes one party wins, and other times the other party wins. If there is no democracy in the country, such a change should not occur. The results of all elections should be the same. The result of 2024 will be the same, we know that…”

EAM Jaishankar also dismissed several of Rahul Gandhi’s claims regarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and China’s occupation of Indian territory. He stated, “China has been occupying land since the 1950s. Rahul Gandhi referred to a bridge being built by China on Pangong Tso lake, but that was on territory captured by China in 1962. China has captured territories in India since the 1950s. However, in 2020, we had to do forward deployment, which caused tension. So the problem is not land but forward deployment.”

During his visit to the US earlier this week, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed the Indian Diaspora and criticized the current government, claiming an attack on the democratic structure.
