NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party’s member of Parliament from Jharkhand, Dr Nishikant Dubey, took to X claiming that Lokpal had initiated a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Cash for Query allegations against Trinamool Congress MP, Mahua Moitra, on Wednesday.

Dubey posted on X, ” Lokpal today, on my complaint, ordered a CBI inquiry into the corruption of accused MP Mahua ji by mortgaging national security.”

In his initial complaint to the corruption watchdog, the Jharkhand MP had accused Moitra of receiving Rs 2 crore bribe from businessperson Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for questions at the Parliament through her parliament login credentials. Dubey also claimed that the Krishnanagar MP had “mortgaged” the country’s security by opening her parliament ID in Dubai.

“An MP mortgaged the country’s security for some money. Parliament’s IDs were opened from Dubai. At that time the MP was in India. The entire Indian government, the Prime Minister of the country, the Finance Department, and the central agencies are on this NIC; and the opposition has to do politics. The decision is of the public. NIC gave this information to the investigating agency,” said a tweet on Dubey’s X handle.

Earlier on November 2, Moitra was directed to appear before a Parliamentary Ethics Committee which was probing into the allegations of the cash-for-query scam. During the course of the hearing, members of the opposition INDIA alliance alongside Moitra herself, staged a walkout in lieu of allegedly inappropriate and indecent questions. However, the chairperson of the panel, Vinod Sonkar, denied these allegations and said that both Moitra and her allies were trying to evade the real questions related to the case.

The hearing at the Parliamentary Ethics Committee took place in lieu of Dubey’s complaint to Lokpal on October 22.

During Durga Puja, Moitra had invited the CBI over to her residence to inspect and count her pairs of shoes, following which Dubey took to X saying that he had filed a complaint with the Lokpal on that day since he was tired of hearing “CBI, CBI”. “I am tired of hearing CBI, CBI. Filed a complaint with Lokpal today. Only Lokpal looks after the corruption of MPs and Ministers, CBI is its medium.”

Initially, the scandal had broken out after the Jharkhand MP sent a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on the basis of documental evidence provided by Moitra’s former lover and Supreme Court advocate Jai Anant Dehadarai, which allegedly proves that she accepted gifts from the Dubai-based businessperson in exchange for question.

However, till now Moitra has denied these charges and has claimed it to be a conspiracy against her to oust her from the lower house.
