NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a significant announcement during his address at the Jana Garjana Sabha in Suryapet, the poll-bound state of Telangana. Shah declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana will have a chief minister from the backward caste. He said, “Today I want to tell the people of Telangana, give your blessings to BJP and form the BJP government. BJP will give Telangana a chief minister from the backward class.”

In his speech, Shah criticised the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and alleged that they have failed to fulfill their promises to the poor, Dalits, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He questioned the TRS’s commitment to appointing a Dalit chief minister and their allocation of resources for the Scheduled Caste’s welfare. “In 2014, K. Chandrashekar Rao promised to give three acres of land to Dalits. However, he was unable to fulfill it. He promised a budget of Rs 50,000 crore for the welfare of the Scheduled Caste. Did you allocate the budget, KCR?” Shah asked.

He emphasised that the BJP’s goal is the welfare of the underprivileged, in contrast to the TRS and Congress, which he accused of prioritising their families’ interests. Shah appealed to the people of Telangana, asserting that only the BJP can bring development to the state. He criticised both the TRS and Congress for perpetuating dynasty politics, suggesting that KCR aims to see his son, K T Rama Rao, as the chief minister, while Sonia Gandhi hopes to make her son, Rahul Gandhi, the prime minister. He labeled both parties as dynastic and claimed that they could not effectively serve the interests of Telangana.

In the midst of this political discourse, Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party (JSP) and the BJP have initiated discussions about seat-sharing in Telangana. With a voter base of three crore, the Telugu state is poised for a fierce electoral contest involving the ruling TRS, Congress, and the BJP.
