NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) in response to a plea demanding a fresh round of NEET PG 2024 counselling.

The petitioners, three NEET PG candidates, argued that the third round of All India Quota (AIQ) counselling was “compromised” due to delays in the completion of round two counselling in multiple states, particularly Madhya Pradesh.

A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and K Vinod Chandran took cognizance of the matter and sought MCC’s response. The plea highlights instances of seat blocking by candidates, allegedly caused by the overlapping of state and AIQ counselling rounds.

It claims that some state quota candidates, who would not have otherwise been eligible, managed to block AIQ seats while securing better seats through the state quota, putting meritorious candidates at a disadvantage.

According to the petitioners, NEET PG AIQ round three began before round two was completed in several states. This, they argue, led to discrepancies in seat allocation, impacting fairness in the process.

The petition demands that MCC conduct a fourth round of counselling to fill seats that were previously blocked by candidates where round two counselling was incomplete.

Additionally, the petitioners have requested that candidates eligible for AIQ round three be allowed to register for the NEET PG 2024 stray round of counselling, ensuring they get a fair chance at securing a seat.

With the Supreme Court’s intervention, MCC is now expected to respond to the concerns raised regarding the counselling process.

The case could have significant implications for NEET PG aspirants awaiting fair seat allocations.
