New Delhi: The New Delhi World Book Fair 2025 was inaugurated by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on 1st February 2025, in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said, “I am delighted to be among book lovers at this Book Fair inauguration. The National Book Trust and the Ministry of Education have organized this fair for five decades, promoting the culture of reading. I appreciate their enduring contribution.”

She also said, “Many countries participate in this fair. I am pleased that the Russian Federation, as the Focus Country, will organize literary events, children’s activities, and cultural performances. This will strengthen cultural bonds between our nations.”

The President emphasized the importance of books and culture, stating, “Reading books from different languages and cultures builds bridges among regions and communities. This Book Fair’s diverse stalls represent India’s languages and those of other countries.”

She urged prioritizing children’s books, saying, “Developing a love for reading in children is crucial. I remember my school days and my inspiring teachers. Reading cultivated in childhood becomes a lifelong habit. Every elder should take it up as an important duty.”
“The magic of books should continue to guide us towards building a more learned and compassionate society. I wish all book lovers a very bright future. Thank you! Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!” she concluded.
