NEW DELHI: On the night of May 7โ8, 2025, India’s S-400 ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ air defense system successfully intercepted multiple drones and missiles launched from Pakistan, targeting 15 Indian cities, including Amritsar.ย
The interceptions occurred over Punjab between 1:10 AM and 1:20 AM, with loud explosions reported across several districts. Debris from the intercepted projectiles was recovered in Amritsar, confirming the mid-air neutralization of the threats.
In Amritsar’s Kathunangal area, missile debris was found in fields of Jethuwal and Makhan Windi villages. Residents reported hearing explosions and seeing flashes in the sky around 1:30 AM, followed by a brief power outage.ย
Local authorities, including police and army personnel, secured the areas and collected the debris for examination.
The Indian Ministry of Defence stated that Pakistan attempted to strike military targets across northern and western India. However, India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems swiftly tracked and eliminated the incoming threats.
In response to the attempted attacks, the Indian Armed Forces conducted targeted strikes on Pakistani air defense radars and installations, including key sites in Lahore. Sources indicate that one of Pakistan’s air defense systems in Lahore was successfully neutralized.
The situation remains tense, with both nations on high alert. India has reiterated its commitment to non-escalation, stating that any further provocations will be met with equal intensity but measured force.
