NCP leader Jayant Patil’s meeting with Amit Shah raises political eyebrows

Amit Shah was seen on stage with Ajit Pawar after changing sides with Maha CM Ekanth Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis.

PUNE: Amidst speculations, Maharashtra state NCP chief Jayant Patil and loyalist of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar met Amit Shah hinting towards yet another senior leader aligning towards the BJP.

As per sources, Ajit Pawar himself was the mediator to talk between Jayant Patil and BJP. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Pune on Sunday to unveil the digital portal of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Pune. He was seen on stage with Ajit Pawar after changing sides with Maha CM Ekanth Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis.

Reacting to the media, Jayant Patil dismissed the reports regarding his meeting with Amit Shah. “Several Misconceptions are being spread about me. I am with Sharad Pawar. The talk of me meeting Union Minister Amit Shah is also baseless, I will tell you wherever I go, I am loyal to my party”, Jayant Patil said.

Political observers who spoke to the New Indian said that the state politics will have to brace for another political earthquake if more MLAs from the NCP will switch sides along with Sharad Pawar close aid Jayant Patil.

When Ajit Pawar switched sides with 40 MLAs on July 2 after leading a revolt against Sharad Pawar and joined BJP – Jayant Patil remained with Sharad Pawar.

Jayant Patil also clarified, ” Last evening I met Sharad Pawar, I met him today also and later met senior colleagues Anil Deshmukh, Rajesh Tope and Sunil Bhusara at his home”.

Jayant Patil had earlier written to Speaker Rahul Narvekar demanding disqualification of Ajit Pawar and eight others after Ajit Pawar led the rebellion and his group claimed the party name as well as the election symbol.

Meanwhile in Pune the stage was shared between Amit Shah and Ajit Pawar after he joined the BJP. During the event, Amit Shah said, ” Dada (Ajit Pawar) has come for the first time after becoming the Deputy CM and I am sharing the stage with him, I want to tell him that after a long time, you are sitting at the right place. This was the right place but you took too long.”

Meanwhile, for the BJP, Pune and the adjoining constituencies are very important as far as Lok Sabha is concerned and hence the party is trying to establish a strong connection with the voters in the region.

Cooperative sector is integral to the rural economy and politics of the state and Amit Shah is holding the cooperative portfolio.

Sangli, which also falls in the same belt, is a stronghold of NCP leader Jayant Patil.

In the month of June Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched 14 premises in Western Maharashtra, including the office of the Rajarambapu Sahakari Bank Ltd (RSBL) linked to NCP state unit president Jayant Patil in Sangli, in a money laundering case related to suspicious transactions involving around Rs 1,000 crore.
