CHHINDWARA: With just days left for the Madhya Pradesh elections, Nakul Nath, son of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath, shared his insights on the campaign, lessons learned, and the road ahead, with The New Indian’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua.

Rohan: As the elections approach, your father, almost touching 75, seems positive. Is this going to be his last hurrah?

Nakul Nath: This will definitely be a hurrah. I won’t say it’ll be the last hurrah, but it’ll be significant.

Rohan: Reflecting on the 2018 debacle, what lessons have you learned?

Nakul: I think we’ve gotten rid of all the dirt from the Congress party and that’s the biggest lesson we’ve learned.

Rohan: Despite being the richest MP of 2019, you appear humble. What keeps you grounded?

Nakul: My relationship with Chhindwara for the last 44 years; I treat every person there as family.

Rohan: You maintain a low profile despite your enormous wealth. Any particular reason?

Nakul: I’m not shy of the media. I do like to keep a low profile.

Rohan: With Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s popularity intact, do you think Jyotiraditya Scindia’s shift from Congress will still impact these elections?

Nakul: I don’t think so. The people of Madhya Pradesh are fed up with the BJP. The biggest victory margin will be from the Gwalior Chambal region.

Rohan: Many Doon School alumni left the Congress. Why do you think they left and not you?

Nakul: It’s their personal decision. I’m still friendly with all of them.

Rohan: With 72 hours left, what were the brave steps in this campaign?

Nakul: We held a very aggressive and strong campaign and I’m sure that will pay off on December 3.

Rohan: Anything particular of the hallmarks of the campaign that you focused on this time that we could not in the last campaign?

Nakul: We’ve just gone with the basic issues which are the problems of today that the people of Madhya Pradesh face. One is unemployment, second is inflation, and third is corruption.

Rohan: Speaking of corruption, is it targeted at the state or the Centre?

Nakul: It’s directed at the state government. We are fighting a state election.

Rohan: With the PM putting allegations on Congress, like the Mahadev app charges, how do you respond?

Nakul: The biggest scandal in Madhya Pradesh today is the Mahakal Lok scandal.

Rohan: Mahadev versus Mahakal?

Nakul: Absolutely!
