Matthew Perry’s death linked to “acute effects of ketamine”, reveals autopsy report

NEW DELHI: In a shocking turn of events, it has been found out through an autopsy report that beloved actor Matthew Perry of ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ fame, had traces of ketamine in his body.

Perry had succumbed to his demise at the age of 54, with the Los Angeles County medical examiner releasing a statement on Friday, stating that his death was caused by the “acute effects” of the drug.

Perry was discovered “unresponsive in the pool at his residence” on October 28, and despite immediate efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner ruled the manner of death as an accident.

The postmortem examination identified ketamine as the primary cause, with contributing factors including drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid use disorder.

Reports indicate that Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to manage depression and anxiety.

The actor had always been candid about his battle with addiction and journey towards sobriety. In his memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing’, released in 2022, Perry detailed his struggles, including becoming an alcoholic as a teenager and developing a painkiller addiction following a 1997 jet skiing accident.

His addictions had severe consequences, leading to Perry falling into a coma at one point and costing him approximately $7 million to achieve sobriety.

Despite his personal challenges, Perry dedicated himself to helping others facing similar issues and established a sober living facility for men.

In the wake of his untimely death, a foundation has been established in the deceased actor’s name to support individuals fighting addiction. Jennifer Aniston, his ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ co-star, had expressed shock and grief, stating that Perry seemed content and healthy before his passing.

“He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy – that’s all I know,” Aniston had said to the media, “I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy.”

As details surrounding his passing continue to emerge, the focus remains on celebrating Perry’s contributions to the world of entertainment and his enduring legacy through his enchanting performances.
