NEW DELHI: As the U.S. presidential election approaches, Georgia finds itself once again as a critical battleground, where voter sentiment appears to be split. In a recent interview conducted by The New Indian’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua, some Georgia voters shared their perspectives on the choices between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Speaking to Rohan Dua, Executive Editor of The New Indian an architect Alex Fatwasa expressed a balanced view on the contest. “I think it’s even,” he said when asked who holds the edge in the upcoming election. Despite acknowledging that both candidates have their strengths, Fatwasa revealed a preference for Harris, citing her character and policy-driven approach as key reasons. “I think she’s better for most Americans, including those who are struggling and those who are doing well,” he noted.

When questioned on the economy, Fatwasa was cautious in his assessment. “I wouldn’t say it’s her regime,” he clarified, referring to Harris’s role as vice president rather than head of state. While he acknowledged signs of economic improvement under the current administration, he pointed out ongoing challenges. “The economy has been improving over time, but it’s still hard for a lot of people out there,” he added.

The New Indian also spoke with Tom, a young professional in sales who lives in Atlanta’s Grant Park. Despite the uncertainty about Harris’s chances in Georgia, he revealed he had already cast his ballot in her favour through early voting. “I don’t know that she will win in Georgia, but I’m hoping a lot of people turn out for what they believe in,” Tom said, indicating his belief in Harris’s approach over Trump’s.

Tom also stated that while he believes in Harris’s policies on social issues, like her stance on marijuana legalization, he questions Trump’s ability to handle the economy effectively. “I don’t think Trump’s better equipped to handle anything,” Tom added, highlighting his scepticism of the former president’s economic policies.
