SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has called on the police forces of the Union Territory to adopt a well-rounded and future-ready strategy in combating terrorism; one that relies equally on sharp intelligence, community partnership, digital tools, and seamless coordination across security agencies.
Speaking at the ceremonial passing out parade of newly inducted Deputy Superintendents and Sub-Inspectors at the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy in Udhampur on Monday, Sinha laid emphasis on “intelligence-led tactical action” against terrorism. He said the Jammu and Kashmir Police and allied security formations have been given complete operational freedom to dismantle the terror structure embedded within the region.
Stressing the urgency of collective resolve, the LG urged the police, armed forces, and central paramilitary units to act in synergy to eliminate both active terrorists and the covert network that fuels terror logistics. He said particular focus should be laid on neutralising overground workers (OGWs) and those enabling terrorists through funds, resources, or shelter.
Sinha encouraged law enforcement agencies to embrace cutting-edge tools such as Artificial Intelligence for strategic data-gathering and threat analysis. He added that modern surveillance systems must complement traditional policing to counter radicalisation and respond effectively to volatile developments.
“Ending terrorism in every corner of Jammu and Kashmir remains our foremost goal,” he affirmed.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the continuing relevance of “beat policing”, a grassroots model of regular community patrolling despite rapid advances in surveillance technology. He stressed that blending technological intelligence (TechInt) with human intelligence (HumInt) will yield better results in counter-insurgency efforts.
Commending the new officers, Sinha urged them to uphold the integrity, discipline, and legacy of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. He offered his respects to fallen police heroes, stating that their supreme sacrifices are remembered by the nation with pride.
“I salute the courage and professionalism of our police personnel. The entire country honours their strength in dealing with complex security threats and in curbing the menace of terrorism,” he remarked.
The Lieutenant Governor also took the formal salute and reviewed the march-past. He personally congratulated outstanding trainees among the graduating officers.
Among those present at the event were Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, Udhampur DC Saloni Rai, senior officers from the civil administration, armed forces, and proud family members of the passing-out batch.
