NEW DELHI: Meghalaya National People’s Party MP WR Kharlukhi along with 27 others from the state are stranded in Jerusalem. As per sources, the Rajya Sabha MP was accompanied by his wife and daughter to Israel. Kharlukhi is the NPP State President of Meghalaya.

Further, along with the MP a total of 27 citizens of Meghalaya who had travelled for the Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem are stuck in Bethlehem due to the tension between Israel and Palestine.

The Meghalaya Government has taken stock of the matter and has already been in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure their safe passage back home.

Taking to X, CM Conrad Sangma posted, “27 citizens of Meghalaya who travelled for the Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem are stuck in Bethlehem due to the tension between Israel and Palestine. I am in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure their safe passage back home.”

People from Meghalaya take the Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem annually. As such, most of the citizens who are stuck have gone for the same purpose.

Earlier on Saturday, the Embassy of India in Israel issued an advisory for its nationals in Israel advising them to avoid unnecessary movement and stay close to safety shelters. The Indian Embassy has asked the citizens to remain vigilant and follow all safety protocols issued by local authorities.

Israel Ambassador to India Naor Gilon said, “Israel is under a combined attack from Gaza during the Jewish holiday. Both by rockets and ground infiltration of Hamas terrorists. The situation is not simple but Israel will prevail.”

Further, seven Nepali students found themselves caught in the crossfire between Hamas and Israeli forces, as they were taken hostage by the terrorist group. This information was confirmed by Nepal’s Ambassador to Israel.
