NEW DELHI: Opposition parties will start the process of finalizing a seat-sharing formula and are expected to unveil the logo of their newly-formed coalition, INDIA during its third meeting in Mumbai next week.

Members of INDIA or the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance will also nominate members to the 11-member coordination committee set up during the second meeting in Bengaluru earlier this month. The panel will take decisions on all important matters like seat-sharing and the prime ministerial face for the alliance.

Planning for holding joint opposition rallies in different states will also be discussed at the meeting to be hosted by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former CM Uddhav Thackeray, confirmed KC Tyagi, a senior leader of alliance member Janata Dal (United), told The New Indian.

“Opposition unity has transformed in the last one year. Some months back when several parties were exploring to form a non-BJP, non-Congress bloc, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that there could be no formidable opposition force without the Congress party,” said Tyagi, JDU’s special advisor and the chief spokesperson. The JDU leader claimed that the opposition grouping is ready to take on the BJP’s election winning machine in around 450 Lok Sabha constituencies.

“During this upcoming meeting, we will create a framework for the smooth functioning of the alliance,” he revealed, adding that leaders will brainstorm to select alliance candidates from its constituents based on their strength. The 26 opposition parties finalized their name as ‘INDIA’ at their second meeting chaired by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Bengaluru in July mid. The UPA or the United Progressive Alliance was dissolved at the gathering.
