NEW DELHI: In the midst of devastating floods that swept through Abdullapur village in Hoshiarpur district, an incident has highlighted the profound balance between faith, humanity, and governance.
As the Beas river waters engulfed the village, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Urmur constituency, Jasvir Singh Raja Gill, took the lead in safeguarding Sikh tradition by ensuring the respectful relocation of the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to safety.
Before shifting the holy scripture with the support of the sangat, Gill performed an ardaas, praying for peace and the well-being of the community. The emotional visuals of the rescue went viral on social media, stirring sentiments across Punjab. The moment served as a reminder that even amidst natural disasters, religious sanctity and reverence for Guru Sahib remain uncompromised.
Simultaneously, AAP leaders emphasized that protecting both people’s lives and their faith is their collective responsibility. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government has intensified relief and rescue efforts, with ministers and officials deployed in flood-hit regions and administrative teams working round the clock.
In a symbolic move of solidarity, Mann, his Cabinet colleagues, and all AAP MLAs have pledged to donate one month’s salary to flood relief. The decision, leaders said, reflects their emotional bond with the people and commitment to service.
At a time when vast stretches of farmland lie submerged and thousands of homes are inundated, AAP representatives have sought to reassure citizens that governance extends beyond administration. By upholding religious values while carrying out rescue operations, they have strengthened public faith that the government will protect both lives and spiritual traditions.
Observers say the episode underscores a larger message: politics is not confined to power but finds its highest expression when blended with humanity and faith. For many in Punjab, the government’s actions in this crisis have come to symbolize Rajdharma — the righteous duty of serving people with integrity, compassion, and respect for cultural identity.
As Chief Minister Mann put it, Punjab’s real strength lies in the unity of the government and the sangat during times of crisis — a message now resonating strongly across the state.
