NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has booked ex-Delhi Jal Board (DJB) chief Udit Prakash Rai for allegedly forging the signatures of two of his senior officers on his APAR (annual performance appraisal report).

As per the FIR, which is registered at the IP Estate police station, on the complaint of Special Secretary (vigilance) YVVJ Rajshekhar, Rai committed this forgery between the period of 2017 and 2022. During this period, Rai was deployed as the head of the Delhi Jal Board.

Sources said the case was registered at the direction of the Home Ministry (MHA) after the vigilance inquiry into the matter.

On July 4, the MHA informed the Delhi government that Rai did not submit his APAR online; however he submitted it manually.

It has also been stated that he allegedly forged the signatures of two of his senior officers before submitting the form.

Sources also said that MHA has received one more complaint against Rai for his alleged involvement in a case of corruption where he took money from an executive engineer of the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB) to settle a dispute related to disproportionate assets. Sources said Rai was posted as a vice chairman of DAMB then.

The name of Rai also cropped up in another controversy when questions were raised as to how he was appointed CEO of DJB while being ineligible for the post. He was also held responsible for building a residential complex by razing a mediaeval period heritage monument complex in Delhi.

Interestingly, Rai also filed a complaint of harassment against Rajshekhar to the chief secretary, where he said that Rajasekhar had already been informed that he came from Mizoram to appear before the Vigilance Department after receiving the notice in the investigation case, but Rajasekhar intentionally was not present in his office.

Rai also said in his complaint that, in the name of the investigation, he and his family are being harassed. He had also sent a copy of the letter to the Chief Minister, LG and Union Home Minister.
