NEW DELHI: Deputy Superintendent of Police Sheikh Aadil has been reinstated into service after the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir ordered the closure of departmental proceedings against him, officials said on Tuesday.
According to official sources, the decision followed the investigating agency’s report which found “no substance” in the allegations framed under the Prevention of Corruption Act and closed the departmental inquiry as “not proved.” The sources said the Inquiry Commission conducted a “detailed and impartial examination” and exonerated Aadil of all charges.
The Hon’ble court dealing with allied offences under the Indian Penal Code also reportedly dismissed the charge sheet after due consideration, further clearing the legal path for his reinstatement. Officials added that the Intelligence Wing carried out an independent assessment and issued a clean chit.
Background and earlier action
Sheikh Aadil (also reported as Aadil Mushtaq in earlier coverage) had faced serious allegations in 2023, including charges relating to corruption and alleged misconduct while serving as a police officer.
He was suspended and faced criminal investigation after surveillance and probe teams examined accusations that included aiding suspects and tampering with evidence, allegations that led to his arrest in September 2023, according to earlier reporting. That episode prompted departmental and criminal proceedings which have now been closed.
Government sources cited by local media said the closure order from the Lieutenant Governor was issued in light of the inquiry report and the court’s dismissal of the charge sheet.
