BENGALURU: Ravindra Jadeja on Saturday quit Chennai Super Kings captaincy in the wake of the team’s poor performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). MS Dhoni, who had stepped down from the captaincy before the season, is back to lead the franchise.

Chennai have lost six matches out of eight games they have played so far in the tournament.

“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game. He has requested MS Dhoni to lead the CSK,” says the statement.

The team said that Dhoni accepted to lead CSK “in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game”.

Till now, Dhoni has led CSK in 204 matches and won 121. Under his captaincy, the franchise has won the IPL championship four times. He also led CSK to two Champions League titles.

Chennai are hoping that Dhoni’s experience and tactical nous will help the morale and prospects of the team.
