Teju Shahni has become a centre of attraction and numerous questions in Muzaffarpur.

PATNA: In a stunning turn of events, a man presumed dead and already given his last rites has returned home, leaving his family members as well as locals in disbelief in Muzaffarpur, Bihar.

Teju Sahni was laid to rest by his family on Saturday, June 10, only to reappear in the Aurai area on Sunday afternoon, prompting a police investigation to uncover the truth behind this perplexing case.

Police officials have suggested that it could be a case of mistaken identity. Narrating the sequence of events, Sahni’s family members stated that the elderly man left his home around 10 days ago to attend a court case hearing regarding a land dispute. However, when he did not return for many days, his son began to contact relatives and family friends in a desperate attempt to find him.

Concerned about his father’s safety, Sahni’s son, Pramod Sahni, lodged a missing person report with the Aurai police station. On Friday, the police recovered a body and called Pramod for identification. Heartbroken, Pramod positively identified the corpse as his father’s, leading the police to hand over the remains to the grieving family.

“The body was handed over to the family after his son identified it as his father’s,” said Muzaffarpur deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Manoj Pandey, adding that the police have now launched an investigation to ascertain if Pramod erred in identifying the body.

On Sunday, locals were shocked to see Teju Sahni wandering in the town market, and some of them rushed to inform his son about the sudden reappearance. Pramod, who was observing almost week-long rituals following his father’s death, was pleasantly surprised to see his ‘dead’ father returning home.

For Teju, his world was shattered. His wife passed away due to a heart attack upon hearing the news of the discovery of his body.

The truth behind this puzzling saga is yet to be unraveled. Authorities are working to determine the real identity of the deceased person, whose last rites were performed unknowingly.
