MUMBAI: In an era where algorithms often dictate visibility, a breakout session at WAVES 2025 titled “The Business of Influence: Creators Shaping Global Culture” struck a powerful emotional chord, spotlighting the heart, purpose, and passion behind today’s most impactful content creators. Held at the Jio World Convention Centre, the session was moderated by Gautam Anand, Vice President, YouTube APAC.

WAVES 2025 celebrates creators shaping culture, community, and global conversation through authentic storytelling (The Business of Influence: Creators Shaping Global Culture).

Opening with a tribute to PM Narendra Modi’s vision of a billion Indian voices rising on the global stage, Anand hailed creators as the true engine of YouTube—diverse, dynamic, and deeply human.

Among the session’s most memorable moments was Japanese creator Mayo Murasaki—popular for her channel Mayo Japan—stunning the audience by speaking fluent Hindi.

Her commitment to representing India authentically to a Japanese audience, grounded in research and cultural respect, earned resounding applause. “I never speak negatively about other countries. I try to show India in its full depth,” she said.

Chef Ranveer Brar, known for blending food with philosophy, reflected on the emotional power of cooking. “I want people to find their Sunday in cooking,” he said, highlighting his mantra—relationship first, transaction second—as the foundation of his creative journey.

Akash Jadhav, the voice behind the channel Indian Farmer, spoke passionately about making agriculture modern, accessible, and sustainable. “Farming is rooted in love. We do it for our own people,” he said, adding that his content in Hindi resonates with global viewers—showing how food and farming transcend language barriers.

Jeetendra Advani of Chess Talk brought focus to the quiet revival of chess in Indian homes. Blending gameplay with cultural nuances, he emphasized relatability and simplicity. “I keep it light and love-filled,” he smiled, noting that chess today connects generations and geographies.

The panel also explored how creators balance authenticity with brand collaborations. Brar candidly shared, “I always start by saying no. If a brand aligns with my values, only then do I say yes.” AI emerged as another key theme, with creators experimenting with AI-powered tools for subtitling and ideation, while underlining the irreplaceable value of human emotion.

In closing, the creators offered soulful advice to aspiring influencers. “Don’t chase algorithms, chase your dreams,” said Brar. “Be consistent, authentic, and think beyond content,” Jadhav added. “Start with what you love,” said Advani. Murasaki concluded, “If you’re true to yourself, everything else will follow.”

Gautam Anand wrapped up the session by reminding everyone that true influence isn’t about virality—it’s about voice, vision, and values. WAVES 2025 continues to serve as a platform that celebrates the stories shaping tomorrow’s global culture, one creator at a time.
