BUXAR: Bihar police, entrusted with enforcing liquor prohibition in the state, were caught smuggling alcohol, causing major embarrassment to the administration. A network of alcohol smuggling was exposed in a police station in Bihar’s Buxar, on Tuesday, resulting in the suspension of five police personnel, including the station in-charge, with two constables currently at large.

An incident at the Brahmapur police station drew attention to the illicit sale of liquor, eventually reaching the Buxar SP, who swiftly took action against the implicated police personnel.

Buxar SP Manish Kumar and Dumraon SDPO Afar Ansari arrived at the Brahmapur police station and initiated immediate measures. After filing cases against the five officers, two suspects were apprehended, while the Station House Officer (SHO) and two constables remain on the run.

According to reports, a video showing the handling of alcohol bottles at the station was shared with senior police officers, causing a stir within the police department.

Buxar SP Manish Kumar explained that the involved police personnel were found handling alcohol bottles seized from a container recently. He stated, “A week ago, we seized a container of alcohol, and some bottles were stored in a room outside the warehouse. The suspicions regarding their activities were confirmed after the video came to light. Consequently, cases were registered against five police personnel, including the station in-charge, at the Brahmapur police station.”

The suspended police personnel include Station In-Charge Vaidehi Nath Choudhary, Sub-Inspector Kunwar Kanhaiya Prasad, Constable Vikas Kumar, Constable Shashikant Yadav, and Constable Ravishankar Rai.

Following the filing of cases against all the accused police personnel, Sub-Inspector Kunwar Kanhaiya Prasad and Constable Vikas Kumar were arrested, while the station in-charge and two other constables are currently absconding.
