Celebratory fire kills minor boy in Nitish Kumar’s Nalanda

PATNA: In a tragic turn of events, a minor boy succumbed to wounds after being hit by celebratory fire during a ceremony in Nalanda, the home district of chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Some people opened fire to celebrate the chhatthi (sixth day of a child’s birth) of the son of BJP MP Kamlesh Paswan’s cousin at Vishnupur village on Sunday night.

Eight-year-old Uttam Kumar was serving food to guests on the occasion when an unidentified person fired and the bullet hit the boy in his head. He died on the spot.

Many people from the village had been invited for the celebrations and the shot was made into the crowd sending panic all across.

According to Biru Paswan, the uncle of the deceased, four unidentified men had entered the vicinity of the occasion allegedly under the influence of intoxicants, who had initiated the celebratory firing which caused the death of theeight-year-old.

Presently, police officials have arrested two people under suspicion of causing the child’s death, however, they are yet to identify the person who shot the bullet.

Police personnel have secured the weapons from the site of firing. Further investigations are still underway.
