NEW DELHI: The Headquarters Southern Air Command and the Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS) hosted a key seminar on “Synergising Air and Naval Forces: Enhancing Combat Power in the Indian Ocean Region.” General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), served as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Air Marshal SP Dharkar, Vice Chief of the Air Staff.

 

Addressing the seminar, Gen Anil Chauhan stresses the critical need for preparedness in the face of an evolving global security environment. 

 

He highlights India’s strategic position in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), positioning the maritime domain as vital for the nation’s defense interests. Gen Chauhan emphasizes the importance of integrating air and naval forces to maintain deterrence and protect national security. He also points out that technological advancements, strategic partnerships, and joint operational exercises will be crucial in strengthening India’s defense capabilities.

In his keynote address, Air Marshal SP Dharkar underscores the importance of real-time intelligence sharing and seamless coordination between the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force to address emerging threats effectively.

 

The seminar features two sessions bringing together senior officers from the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Headquarters Southern Air Command, Indian Army, Indian Navy, and CAPS. The discussions focus on the synergy between maritime and air operations, modern air-sea battle strategies, the role of unmanned systems in maritime security, and the evolving geopolitical landscape. Participants explore ways to optimize force readiness and resource allocation to maintain India’s strategic advantage in the region.
