JAMMU: In a tragic incident, a BSF jawan succumbed to injuries sustained during an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani Rangers along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident took place in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district, marking the third ceasefire violation in the Jammu border in the past 24 days and the sixth since the signing of a ceasefire deal on February 25, 2021.
The BSF soldier, who was injured in the cross-border firing, passed away at a Jammu hospital on Thursday morning. The Border Security Force (BSF) reported that the firing began during the night of November 8-9, with Pakistan Rangers initiating the aggression. BSF troops promptly responded to the unprovoked firing in the Ramgarh area.

This recent violation follows similar incidents in October, where two BSF personnel and a woman were injured during heavy firing and shelling that lasted for about seven hours on October 28. A week earlier, on October 17, two other jawans were injured in firing in the Arnia sector, as reported by the BSF.
Local villagers, speaking to The New Indian, shared their accounts of the incident, stating that the firing commenced around 12:20 am and later escalated into intense shelling. They expressed a prevailing fear along the International Border due to the recurrent incidents of firing and shelling.

The latest episode marks the sixth violation since the signing of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides on February 25, 2021. The continuous breaches underscore the precarious security situation in the region, necessitating heightened vigilance and diplomatic efforts to maintain peace along the border.
