NEW DELHI: The former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, and former assistant secretary Vinod Tomar were granted two days of interim bail by a Delhi court in the case of sexual harassment with six female wrestlers on Tuesday.

Judge Harjeet Singh Jaspal at Rouse Avenue court granted bail to both accused on the surety of ₹25000 each. The court also ordered the next date of hearing on regular bail for July 20.

The Public Prosecutor, representing Delhi Police, Atul Srivastava, said that both the accused were produced on the direction of the court today. Their lawyer had filed a bail petition and the court granted interim bail on the condition of surety of ₹25,000 each.

“The judge had to hear it a day after tomorrow, therefore, interim bail has been given. The next hearing will be held on Thursday afternoon. The documents related to the case under which we wanted the accused to be prosecuted have also been handed over to them (accused),” said Srivastava.

He also said the bail petition was objected to by the police, who informed the court that the accused might influence the case.

Earlier, Bhushan and Tomar reached the Rouse Avenue court at 2.30 pm. The Delhi police had made security arrangements at the court premises to avoid any chaos.

Bhushan was asked to comment on the case, but he remained silent as he went inside the courtroom.

The counsel of the accused, Rajiv Mohan, argued over the bail petition and said Bhushan has come before the court and he never evaded the investigations, therefore he should be granted bail.

Mohan also complained about the leak of the chargesheet to the media and raised apprehensions about a media trial for his client. On this, the court said he could move to the high court for in-camera proceedings in the case.
