JAIPUR: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Bhajan Lal Sharma selected as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, on Tuesday.

The new CM had emerged victorious from his seat in Sanganer in Jaipur, with over 48,081 votes. The first time MLA was successful in gliding to victory by defeating Congress’ Pushpendra Bhardwaj.

The other candidate who was in the run-up to the CM’s office, Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa have been selected as Deputy CMs. Alongside Kumari, Baba Balaknath, Vasundhara Raje, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Dr Kirodi Lal Meena were also in the race to be the state CM.

His appointment had been made known to the public with Raje announcing Sharma’s appointment as the new CM. According to sources, she had also suggested his name for consideration for the CMO.

Sharma also holds the distinction of being the party’s state general secretary.

During the course of his appointment, his selection was finalised in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Rajasthan BJP President CP Joshi, alongside Raje, at the party HQ.

After Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, the BJP’s selection of Sharma is the third instance of the saffron party pulling out a rabbit out of the hat.

During the course of polling in the desert state, the BJP exacted an overwhelming victory, claiming 115 seats of the total 199 constituencies. The Congress, on the other hand, was only able to claim 69 seats. The saffron party’s victory was marked adherence to the pattern of anti-incumbency that has come to define the state.

Presently, this has also demarcated the BJP’s seats increasing by 42 seats.
