NEW DELHI: The Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Rajgir 2024 match schedule has been altered by the Asian Hockey Federation in collaboration with the hosts, Hockey India. To minimize the disturbances brought on by a heavy infestation of insects, which are most noticeable at night under the floodlights, matches have been moved to the early afternoon.

The first match of the day will now begin at 12:15 PM IST, the second at 2:30 PM IST, and the last at 4:45 PM IST, according to the amended schedule. In the past, games were scheduled at evening times, starting at 3:00 PM IST for the first match, 5:15 PM IST for the second, and 7:30 PM IST for the final. Following team feedback and observations of increased insect activity during floodlit training sessions, the organizing committee made this decision.

The venue has special environmental problems because it is near rice fields, which are a haven for a lot of insects at this time of year. The Bihar State Government responded by implementing several stringent environmental management measures to reduce the amount of insects. Among these were the stadium’s extensive fumigation processes, advanced drone operations, and application of internationally renowned chemical treatments. Seven different types of insect-repelling pesticides, such as cyphenothrin, deltamethrin, and cyfluthrin, were employed to make the environment safe and comfortable for players and spectators.

“The safety of players, fans, and everyone involved in this prestigious tournament is our top priority,” said Dr Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India, in response to the decision. We want to uphold excellent standards while making sure that teams and the Bihar community, who have been excitedly anticipating this event, have a seamless hockey game at this new location.
