Congress, just like Pakistan, only talks about Palestine: Assam CM

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has slammed the Indian National Congress (INC) over its stand on the Israel-Palestine War.

The Congress Working Committee, the party’s highest-decision-making body, expressed its “dismay and anguish” over the war and underlined its support of the Palestinian people’s right to “land (and) self-government, and to live with dignity and respect”.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, October 12, the Assam CM stated that the Congress party’s statements on the Israel-Palestine conflict have similarities with Pakistan’s stand on the matter. “Congress, just like Pakistan, only talks about Palestine instead of condemning terror acts. Congress should have condemned the terror activity of Hamas, and along with that, they can talk about Palestine. But in their resolution, They only talked about Palestine, just like Pakistan. My question is whether they want to make a government in India or Pakistan?” said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Following the comments of the Assam CM, the Congress has responded. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Borah has called the Assam CM a liar. “The Israeli Government has not yet confirmed that Hamas has killed children. The first statement of a message released by Jairam Ramesh, INC General Secretary (Media) is: The Indian National Congress condemns the brutal attacks on the people of Israel. Therefore, as usual, just like his boss Modi, Assam CM Himanta Biswas Sarma is lying. Lying has become the second nature of Himanta Biswa Sarma,” added Bhupen Borah.

The combined death toll from the war approached 3,000 and Israel’s military said it’s building a base for thousands of soldiers in preparation for the next phase of its retaliation. Hamas said late on Monday it was prepared to kill hostages that it had taken if Israel attacked.
