KUPWARA: In a successful operation, a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police neutralized five terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, officials confirmed on Friday.

“Based on multiple intelligence inputs received from various agencies regarding the potential infiltration of terrorists from across the Line of Control, a proactive joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and JKP in the Keran Sector,” stated a spokesperson from the defense ministry.

Following a specific intelligence input on June 15, the security forces set up multiple ambushes along the likely infiltration routes. Late on June 16, the ambush teams spotted and engaged a group of heavily armed terrorists attempting to cross the LoC in the Jumagund Nar area.

Despite challenging weather and terrain conditions, the ambush teams successfully eliminated all five infiltrators in the ensuing firefight, without any harm to civilians or infrastructure.

The operation continued throughout the night, and an extensive search of the area was conducted at dawn. The identities of the terrorists and their affiliation with any outfit are currently under investigation. During the operation, security forces seized five AK series rifles, fourteen grenades, five hundred AK rounds, night vision goggles, and a substantial quantity of other war-like stores.

“The seamless coordination and collaboration between the Indian Army and JKP once again resulted in a successful intelligence-based operation,” the spokesperson added.

This operation serves as evidence of the malicious intentions of militant groups determined to disrupt peace in Kashmir. It also exposes the hollow commitment of Pakistan to the ceasefire agreement, which has been exploited time and again to perpetrate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The security forces remain resolute in their determination to defeat the nefarious designs of these elements aiming to disturb peace and harmony in the region.
