SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Wednesday, paid floral tributes to the 26 innocent lives lost in the gruesome terror ambush at Baisaran Meadows in Pahalgam, South Kashmir.

 

At a solemn ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Srinagar, Shah placed wreaths on the flag-draped coffins of the deceased and conveyed his unwavering support to the bereaved families and survivors.

 

Accompanied by Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Home Minister offered condolences and stood in solidarity with the victimsโ€™ kin during an emotionally charged gathering.

In his address to the survivors and grieving families, Shah gave a firm assurance that those behind the heinous massacre would be hunted down and made to face the consequences of their actions. โ€œThere will be no leniency for those who spilled the blood of innocents. Justice will be swift and uncompromising,โ€ he is learnt to have told the affected families.

 

Earlier, the bodies of the victims, most of them visiting tourists, were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar during the early hours, before being transported to the Police Control Room (PCR) for the state-led tribute.

 

The Home Minister also led a high-level security briefing, reviewing counter-terror operations and intelligence updates alongside LG Sinha and top officials.

 

Tuesdayโ€™s terror onslaught in Pahalgam, described as one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in the valley in recent times, saw terrorists opening fire on unsuspecting visitors in the lush green expanses of Baisaran, leaving 26 dead and many others wounded.

 

As grief engulfs the Valley, the Centre has vowed not just justice, but a renewed crackdown on terror forces seeking to destabilise the peace in the region.
