NEW DELHI: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today alleged that the state was witnessing complete anarchy under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Referring to the case involving Head Constable Amandeep Kaur—who was caught with heroin—Warring said it was a blow to the government’s anti-drug drive.
Speaking at workers’ meetings in Dakha and Raikot during the “Judde ga Block, Jeete gee Congress” campaign, Warring said the involvement of a Punjab Police officer in drug trafficking exposed a deep-rooted problem. He demanded an independent investigation, stressing that the Punjab Police could not be expected to conduct a fair probe in a case involving its own personnel.
“The case of Amandeep Kaur is just one example of the larger mess. The fear of gangsters has gripped Punjab, and the common man’s voice is being ignored,” Warring said. He added that all sections of society—farmers, workers, employees, and teachers—are suffering under the current regime.
He alleged that the AAP government had derailed the state’s economy, pushing Punjab back by 25 years and creating an enormous debt burden which would eventually fall on the people.
Warring also cautioned party workers, especially district and block presidents, about alleged manipulations in voter lists, citing the example of Maharashtra where nearly 50 lakh new voters were added in a few months. He urged them to stay vigilant to ensure the integrity of elections.
Warring thanked Dakha Halqa in-charge Capt Sandeep Sandhu, saying his support had been crucial during the parliamentary polls. He also appreciated the work of Raikot MP Dr Amar Singh and halqa in-charge Kamil Singh.
Supporting Warring’s remarks, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa urged the judiciary to take suo moto cognizance of the Amandeep Kaur case. Bajwa called for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), stating that influential individuals may be involved and the Punjab Police could not be relied upon for an impartial probe.
Several senior leaders including Dr Amar Singh, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Kamil Singh, and Major Singh Mullanpur were present during the meetings.
